How we turn research into a redesign

Four concept builds: redesigns we researched and built for real businesses before any engagement. Business names are withheld; every build is labeled as a concept.

Concept build

Industrial contractor, New Albany, MS

Built for
Plant managers, facilities directors, architects
Signature feature
Interactive plant floor plan: hover a work zone to see how it's built around a live production line
Type
Barlow Condensed, Inter, IBM Plex Mono
Palette

“The plant keeps running. We build anyway.”

What we found

The old site read like a general builder. Their own copy and the state business registry told a sharper story: an established Mississippi company whose industrial work is a large part of the business, and who say outright that occupied, fully operational job sites are never a problem.

The angle

For a plant, the biggest cost of construction is often lost operating time. So the site leads with the one thing most contractors can't promise: the line keeps running while they build.

What we built

A full-bleed industrial hero, three service lanes, a phased process, both co-owners presented as the people on your project, a service area naming real towns, and a lead form that asks whether the facility stays live during the work.

What we left for the owner

License number and real job photos were left as clearly marked slots. No project counts, client names, safety stats or testimonials were added.

Concept build

Roofing company, Sacramento, CA

Built for
Homeowners and real estate agents working to escrow deadlines
Signature feature
A self-completing inspection report that checks each roof area and ends in a repair-or-replace verdict
Type
Zilla Slab, Inter, IBM Plex Mono
Palette

“The roof report that tells you the truth.”

What we found

Inspections and roof certifications were central to the business, and realtors were a big part of the audience. Research also turned up an unrelated roofer with a similar name nearby, so we made sure none of their details crept in.

The angle

Most roofers earn more when the news is bad. This one could win on the opposite: honest, repair-first reports that agents can put their name behind.

What we built

Two clear paths (realtors and homeowners), an escrow timeline that works backward from the closing date, repair-first service cards, and a form that asks for the close-of-escrow date only when it's relevant.

What we left for the owner

Phone, email and the California license number were left as marked placeholders, and turnaround promises were written as targets for the owner to confirm.

Concept build

Solar, roofing & electrical, San Antonio, TX

Built for
Homeowners after hail, plus commercial property managers
Signature feature
A hover-through roof cutaway, from decking and shingles to panels, conduit and the breaker panel, each layer tagged by trade
Type
Archivo, Inter, IBM Plex Mono
Palette

“Your roof is one system. Hire it that way.”

What we found

One company holding three trades that usually belong to three different contractors: roofing, solar and electrical.

The angle

When hail damages a solar roof, most owners end up juggling a solar installer, a roofer and an electrician. The site makes the case for one call that covers all of it.

What we built

A thesis section comparing the three-contractor relay with one crew, a five-step solar detach-and-reset explainer, a commercial electrical lane and a service area across the San Antonio metro.

What we left for the owner

Phone, email, license number and real job photos were left as marked placeholders. No testimonials or performance stats were written.

Concept build

Government contractor, Dallas, TX

Built for
Contracting officers, prime contractors and private-sector buyers
Signature feature
A procurement data plate with one-click copy for the registration codes buyers paste into their systems
Type
Spectral, Inter, IBM Plex Mono
Palette

“The certified partner your set-aside goals are looking for.”

What we found

A veteran-owned small business with verified certifications, selling to agencies and prime contractors, not to consumers.

The angle

Procurement buyers want proof and registration details fast. The site puts those first and explains why the certifications help buyers meet their own goals.

What we built

The data plate up front, plain explanations of each certification, three audience cards, tabbed industry panels and an inquiry form built for solicitations.

What we left for the owner

The capability statement PDF and code lists were left as marked slots. No past performance, contract values or client names were added.
